I want to…
BACKGROUND & EDUCATION
My experience includes private practice, as well as working at a well-respected poly-addiction residential treatment center. While there, I worked with a multidisciplinary team of leading experts in substance abuse and addiction, sexual compulsion and addiction, trauma, and shame reduction/resilience.
To further my expertise in the treatment of trauma and addictions, I have been extensively trained by Pia Mellody, Senior Clinical Advisor of The Meadows, for treating family of origin relational trauma using Pia’s Post Induction Therapy model. I am trained in EMDR protocols for both addiction, trauma, and dissociative identity disorder. Additionally, I have trained with sex addiction pioneer Patrick Carnes, and earned accreditation as a Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist (CSAT) and Certified Partner Trauma Therapist (CPTT-Candidate) through the International Institute of Trauma and Addiction Professionals. I have also received 32 hours of specialized training in the Multi Dimensional Partner Trauma Model in order to better serve partners of sex addicts and couples who are in their healing process. I am Gottman Level 1 trained for couple’s counseling. My licensure includes Texas Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC). I previously served on the Board of the Texas Association of Addiction Professionals, Dallas Chapter (TAAP). I am currently serving on the Board of the Twelfth Step Ministry at the Center for Spiritual Development.
A native Texan, I grew up in Dallas and went on to graduate from the University of Texas at Austin. A career in investment banking and commercial real estate that began in my sophomore year in college, eventually led me back to Dallas to join my family’s custom home building business as Chief Financial and Operations Officer. I worked 20 years in the business world before making a life-changing decision to return to graduate school at The University of North Texas, where I earned a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
I grew up in a family with a history of trauma and addiction. Divorce and single parenthood prompted me to seek my own transformational counseling for recovery from relational trauma and issues with codependency. I possess tremendous self-awareness, as well as enormous compassion, sensitivity, and interest in others. My priority is to be a conscientious professional who strives to gain a deep understanding of the concerns of my clients and implications for their lives. In addition to being a competent scholar, I bring salient life experience that provides intangible qualities to assist my clients in their own growth and recovery.
I focus my attention on helping individuals, couples, and groups with recovery from emotional, sexual, and relational trauma and abuse, sexual compulsion and addiction, substance abuse and addiction, codependency, and shame. I also work with issues related to divorce recovery and single parenting, women’s issues, and adolescent parent consulting. Groups that I run include groups for partners of sexual addicts, female sex and relationship addicts, and boundaries. I offer an intensive workshop for individuals who want to understand the impact their family of origin and the past are having in their current lives. The Reclaiming Authenticity intensive format was developed by Pia Mellody for the Survivors I workshop offered at The Meadows treatment center in Wickenburg, AZ.
