BACKGROUND & EDUCATION
Dr. Gary G. Kindley is a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 28 years of experience working with individuals, couples, adolescents, families, corporations, organizations, and people of many faiths, backgrounds, lifestyles, and experiences. A Texas native, he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Psychology from Texas Wesleyan University (magna cum laude), as well as a Master of Divinity Degree and a Doctor of Ministry degree in Pastoral Counseling from Texas Christian University. He has done additional graduate counseling studies at the University of North Texas at Dallas, and is a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist and Certified Multiple Addiction Therapist through the International Institute of Trauma and Addiction Professionals. He completed CSAT training in Chicago where he studied with Dr. Patrick Carnes, Dr. Ken Adams, Dr. Stefanie Carnes, and Rob Weiss. He has received advanced training in EMDR–an effective tool for treating trauma and PTSD.
TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
He has received clinical training in hospital, parish, and counseling center settings, including over 2-1/2 years of supervised counseling experience at the TCU Pastoral Counseling Center and UNT Dallas Counseling Clinic, combined. He received CPE training at Texas Health Resources Harris Methodist Hospital-Fort Worth, and has served on the Crisis Intervention Suicide Hotline in Fort Worth.
A gifted speaker, educator, and author, he has been a resource for corporations and entities such as Nordstrom Stores, the United States Army, the Lions Eye Bank, Zale Lipshy Hospital, Tarrant County College District, UMCOR, Killeen ISD, Georgetown ISD, private investment and healthcare companies, as well as city and county governments in Central and North Texas.
Dr. Kindley holds membership with the International Institute of Trauma and Addiction Professionals, the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health, the Texas Counseling Association, the Texas Association of Marriage and Family Counselors, and the Texas Association of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Issues in Counseling. He is licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors as a Licensed Professional Counselor.
Gary Kindley is a United Church of Christ (UCC) minister, affiliated with the Cathedral of Hope UCC and the North Texas Association of the United Church of Christ (the progressive Christian denomination, not to be confused with local “Churches of Christ”). Previously, he has served as a Senior Minister and Pastoral Counselor working with United Methodist congregations, as well as ecumenical, non-denominational, and non-profit community service organizations throughout Central Texas.
A pre-marital counseling provider through the “Twogether in Texas” Program, he provides premarital counseling to couples for reduced fees and is available to officiate for couples in need of a clergy/officiant for weddings or holy unions.
Dr. Kindley is a husband, father, and adoptive-parent to a 6-year-old Springer-Spaniel named Benson. His hobbies include travel, piano, movies and skeet shooting (the challenge of hitting a moving target that doesn’t bleed)! An advocate of educational travel, he has led tours of the Middle East, Greece, Scotland, and England.
